Carefully study the available models currently available before settling on a particular type because there are many varieties of pre-engineered steel building frameworks. There are two main configurations that are commonly used in commercial and agricultural grade all-steel structures: rigid frame and arch styles.
Quonset huts are now known as arch style pre-engineered buildings. Arch building systems are chosen for many uses, including agricultural buildings, large and small garages and storage sheds. The roofing and sidewalls of the steel building are created by a succession of interlocking metal ribs which create its unique shape. These buildings are often favored among buyers who want to construct their own building, because the assembly procedures are pretty simple and the total cost is much lower when compared with more traditional techniques. Because of the curved shape of the sidewalls, arch style steel buildings almost always only accommodate windows and doors in the end walls. As you move away toward the sides of the building, the overhead clearance in the interior of an arch style building drops quickly.
A more popular form of building design is a rigid frame because it is appropriate for a wide assortment of needs. A second level or mezzanine can be included in rigid frame pre-engineered structure if it is tall enough. While they do require more assembly experience and equipment than arch style buildings, rigid frame structures are easier to assemble than those constructed conventionally. Windows and doors can be installed in the side or end walls. It incorporates high-grade steel skeleton framing as well as flat steel panels for the roof and building walls, adding to its popularity. Easy expansion of the building down the road is feasible with this solid framework.
Regardless of the structure you decide upon, building regulation approval is always required. The ordinances that apply to your project differ state by state, and city by city. Some of the relevant codes may address proper wind and snow loads, earthquake (or seismic) activity resistance and any other local area conditions. Zoning codes, rain drainage requirements, together with city or county covenants are a few other issues that will affect your project. A good steel building producer or supplier can design your building to meet or exceed any structural coding concerns, but it is your responsibility to obtain the proper approvals and communicate the requirements to the manufacturer.
You can build a basement with either style, but it will make your project more costly and complicated. Concrete pads are strongly recommended as the simplest approach whether you choose an arch style or rigid frame configuration.
Do not make any down payments unless you are certain about what building type you want. Before you buy, thoroughly research all of the negatives and positives of the two building styles.
